But more, these investments often provide for significant tax benefits, additional portfolio diversification, and potential for outperforming returns. Alternatives are, however, considered to be a significantly more risky investment than a traditional holding on the open market. Because these opportunities are private and non-traded, there are serious liquidity limitations to investigate and complete loss of your investment is always a possibility.
